Sports Funding Statement

It has been a fantastic year of sports and physical activity here at Kingsrise Academy. This would not have been achieved without the generous sports premium yearly funding that we receive. This brilliant funding has allowed us to have another great year using our Drumba programme running some very successful in school Physical Education units encouraging all the children to get involved with dance and fitness. Furthermore the use of the Drumba programme has aided us in running many parent child workshops which is something we hope to continue next year to raise the profile of physical activity to our families both inside and outside school.
Without this funding we would not have been able to run our many overnight residentials for our children, giving children from EYFS all the way to year 6 the opportunity to go away for the night and take part in some incredible activities creating life long memories. With our children describing it as (and I quote) “The best days ever”, “Amazing and incredible” and “This is something I have never done before and something I will remember FOREVER”.
The final thing I want to highlight is the extra circular activities that our sports premium funding has allowed us to run this year! From gymnastics, fencing, archery and scootering lessons it has been truly a blessing to be able to give our children these opportunities which will continue into our 2025/26 academic year! Similarly to this, sports premium allows us to deliver many opportunities in school through the employment of our PE coach Mr.Franklin. He is a great asset in delivering afterschool clubs, staff CPD and training and running physical activity sessions at lunch and breaktimes.
Thank you for taking the time to read this snippet of what our sports premium gives us here at Kings Rise Academy and we look forward to another exciting year of sports and physical activity.
What is Sports Premium?
In March 2013 the government announced that it was to provide additional funding of £150 million per annum to improve the provision of Physical Education (PE) and sport in primary schools in England-The Primary PE and Sports Premium. The funding is being jointly provided by the Department for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport and will see money going directly to primary school head teachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children. The money can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.
Purpose of the funding
Schools will have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.
Possible uses of the funding include:
Hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching PE
New or additional ‘Change 4 Life’ sport clubs
Paying for professional development opportunities in PE/sport
Providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE/sport
Running sport competitions or increasing participation in the school games
Buying quality assured professional development modules or resources for PE/sport
Providing places for pupils on after school sports clubs and residential visits
At Kings Rise Academy we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of the children. In addition, it is considered that an innovative and varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all children.
The governors agree that the money must be used so that all children benefit regardless of their sporting ability.
At Kings Rise Academy we will continue to place a high priority on our PE provision and our sports funding allocation will enable us to continue and extend our provision through employing more sports professionals and participating in more competitive sports opportunities.
