NCETM
We are on our Teaching for Mastery journey with the NCETM. They are supporting us to promote and sustain a teaching for mastery pedagogy within our classrooms, that will lead to a deeper understanding of mathematics.
Our Maths lead is now also a Teaching for Mastery specialist who will be helping and supporting other schools on their own Teaching for Mastery journeys.
Alongside this, teachers have accessed a variety of professional development workshops that they offer including Mastering Number and Primary Specialist Maths Knowledge . We are actively improving and updating our knowledge and CPD (career professional development).

Times Tables Expectations
Times Table Rock Star
‘Learning multiplication facts is an important foundation for learning different aspects of mathematics such as division, algebra, long multiplication, and even fractions.
For pupils that don't have a solid grasp of the times tables, they may find these other areas to be hard to understand as well.’
DfE, February 2018
When it comes to times tables, speed AND accuracy are important – the more facts your child remembers, the easier it is for them to do harder calculations. Times Table Rock Stars is a fun and challenging programme designed to help pupils master their times tables! To be a Times Table Rock Star you need to answer any multiplication fact up to 12×12 in less than 3 seconds!
NumBots is an online maths learning platform that helps children learn how to add and subtract, improving their fluency and recall in basic mental maths, and equipping them with maths confidence. NumBots covers subitising, number bonds, and addition and subtraction of double-digit numbers; gradually helping your pupils to build a solid conceptual understanding of number sense.
‘’Pupils must be fluent in these facts by the end of year 2, and should continue with regular practice through year 3 to secure and maintain fluency. It is essential that pupils have automatic recall of these facts before they learn the formal written methods of columnar addition and subtraction.’’ - DfE 2020
