Our Vision

At Kings Rise Academy we believe together we can succeed. We share a belief that a child’s mathematical ability is not fixed, everyone can learn and make progress. We want to equip children with an understanding of the fundamentals of mathematics through providing a high quality mathematical education which all children can access. We want to promote a foundation for real life mathematical concepts which prepares children for future prospects, as well as the ability to reason mathematically. We encourage children to have an appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics.

Our Mathematical curriculum offers a vast range of experiences which are designed to provide pupils with the confidence and Mathematical understanding needed to enable them to celebrate their diversity, improve their health and raise their aspirations in our school and beyond as we believe Maths is essential to everyday life.

NCETM

We are on our Teaching for Mastery journey with the NCETM. They are supporting us to promote and sustain a teaching for mastery pedagogy within our classrooms, that will lead to a deeper understanding of mathematics.

Our Maths lead is now also a Teaching for Mastery specialist who will be helping and supporting other schools on their own Teaching for Mastery journeys.

Alongside this, teachers have accessed a variety of professional development workshops that they offer including Mastering Number and Primary Specialist Maths Knowledge . We are actively improving and updating our knowledge and CPD (career professional development).

Times Table Rock Star

‘Learning multiplication facts is an important foundation for learning different aspects of mathematics such as  division, algebra, long multiplication, and even fractions.

For pupils that don't have a solid grasp of the times tables, they may find these other areas to be hard to  understand as well.’

DfE, February 2018

When it comes to times tables, speed AND accuracy are important – the more facts your child remembers, the easier it is for them to do harder calculations. Times Table Rock Stars is a fun and challenging programme designed to help pupils master their times tables! To be a Times Table Rock Star you need to answer any multiplication fact up to 12×12 in less than 3 seconds!
